Crown green bowls is played at Broughton on a floodlit green.
Team Play
There are six bowls teams playing in three different Leagues during the period from April to September. We have two teams (A and B), playing on Monday evenings, in the Longridge & District Mixed Bowling League and two teams (also A and B) entered in the Woodplumpton & District Bowling League and playing on Wednesday evenings. All these teams are in Mixed Leagues open to both men and women. New members are welcome.
There are two Veterans' teams (A and B) playing in the Woodplumpton & District Veterans' Bowling League on Thursday afternoons. Again, new members are welcome
Floodlit League
In previous years a team has been entered in the North Preston Floodlit League, playing two matches each week (home and away) from September to October. In 2014, unfortunately, we were unable to field a team because of lack of support. However, if there is renewed interest in the future, the Section will happily support a team in this League.
Club Tournaments
There are eight bowling competitions held at the Club during the bowling season. All competitions are played on Sundays with the exception of the President’s Day Tournament, which is played on a Saturday. They are:
The Williamson Trophy – a mixed Veterans' singles event – held in April
The Wilkins Men's Trophy – a singles event – held in May
The Nightingale Ladies' Trophy – a singles event – also in May
Note: the Wilkins and Nightingale Cups may be combined
The Eric Wand Trophy – drawn pairs – held in June
President's Day Trophies, men's and ladies' singles events – held in July
The Attwater Cup – drawn pairs – held in August
The Draper Cup for Veterans aged 60 and over, drawn pairs – held in September
The Bernard Shipley Trophy - a singles merit competition - held in September
Social Bowling
Unless otherwise in use (or unfit for play in wet weather), the bowling green is open every day from 10.00 a.m. for use by Bowls Section members. Many members regularly play socially on Tuesday and Thursday mornings. New members will be made welcome but it may be better for beginners to play during quieter periods.
